Asking help from other than Allah, permissible or not?

Before reading please recite Darood Sharif thrice and smile once :)

Assalamualaikum.

There may be logical and genuine questions in your mind but With the mercy of Allah I'm going to try to help out you and your all doubts will be cleared after reading the article inshallah but you have be patient and neutral.

Firstly all Muslims should believe that Asking help from other than Allah is neither farid nor wajib it's just personal and depends on the individual's circumstances. After possessing the mentioned belief all Muslims should also believe that whatever the pious people give they don't give of their own, they bring that from Allah or in other words Allah has given them that much of power/capability.

Now you may have thought few questions like:

1. Why we should ask help from pious one's if we have allah?

As mentioned earlier neither it is farid nor wajib to seek help from other than Allah but if someone asks help from Pious one's indirectly he is asking from allah because pious people doesn't have their own and their is hadith where Allah says about pious worshipers"so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks;" (Sahih Bukhari 6502) https://hamariweb.com/islam/hadith/sahih-bukhari-6502/

whenever someone asks help from pious one's indirectly they are asking from allah because Every muslim believes no-one can give without the concent of Allah, even in this worldly life when humans ask from other humnas like poor from rich, pateints from doctor, petentioner from judge of court or calling police or ambulance etc, while doing these things our primary believe is despite they ( doctor, rich etc) have been given powers of helping still they can't help until unless there's isn't willingness of Allah. At the end of the mentioned hadith Allah says "and I hate to disappoint him" when Allah says i hate to disappoint pious worshipers then if pious people will ask (oh Allah there is a man Asking thing .....) Please provide him or if pious people will make wish for asker or they will say, you will get what you have asked as Allah says i hate to disappoint them so think will Allah deny their request or sayings or wish?. This is the main reason why people seek help from beloved one's of Allah, because they know Allah will not deny the request of pious one's.
This is actually the higher level of intercession where people directly ask from intercessor.
Now there is another question here which is how can dead one do the same for us. To understand this concept, Islamic theory of death and live is discussed later.

2. What powers Allah has given to pious one's?

Ans: The biggest power which Pious worshippers/ beloved one's of Allah has is the friendship of Allah. Whether in quran or in hadith Allah clearly describes the grade and status of his beloved one's.
After studying the Quran and Hadith you will find it quite obvious that the pious one's are special and superior than normal people (here you should know there is equality of rights in islam but inequality in grades)
Discussing the (al-Khadir,/Khader -as)
Will give us the best explanation of the powers of Pious one's (awliya) as there are also so many verses and hadiths. Incident is mentioned in ( surah no 18 from verse no 60 ).
Story Ashab al kahf also determines the of power and protection given by Allah to his pious worshipers. There story is also mentioned in( surah no 18 from verse no 9)
Story of prophet Suliman a.s when he asked his court members who can bring the throne of bilkis before they arrive, there was a scholar/pious worshipers of allah who brought the throne even faster than the blinking of eyes
(Story is mentioned in surah 27 from verse no 35)
This shows the power of court member of suliman-as given by allah now imagine the power of suliman-as and we can't even imagine the power given to beloved prophet Muhammad ﷺ by Allah . #subhanAllah
"Sahih Bukhari 6502) "Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine. And the most beloved things with which My slave comes nearer to Me, is what I have enjoined upon him; and My slave keeps on coming closer to Me through performing Nawafil (praying or doing extra deeds besides what is obligatory) till I love him, so I become his sense of hearing with which he hears, and his sense of sight with which he sees, and his hand with which he grips, and his leg with which he walks; and if he asks Me, I will give him, and if he asks My protection (Refuge), I will protect him; (i.e. give him My Refuge) and I do not hesitate to do anything as I hesitate to take the soul of the believer, for he hates death, and I hate to disappoint him."
The above mentioned hadith clearly states the grade of pious one's.

{ whenever you think or you use mushrik term for a muslim kindly think of this verse:

إِنَّكُمْ وَمَا تَعْبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ حَصَبُ جَهَنَّمَ أَنتُمْ لَهَا وَٰرِدُونَ ٩٨
"Surely, you and whatever you worship other than Allah are the fuel of Jahannam.. There you will have to arrive. (22/98)"

So when a muslim is asking help from beloved one's of Allah if you consider this a worship and label them Mushrik.

Then you are believing Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and other beloved one's of Allah are going to be the fuel of jahannam (I seek refuge in God)

because Muslims only seek help from beloved one's of Allah and muslims are considering them as the secondary providers i.e power of help/aid/asset/support given by Allah" , and muslims doesn't seek help from the statue's..}

Now coming to the main topic:

There are several differences among Muslims as far as ideologies and interpretations are concerned, since the collapse of the ottoman empire the issue which has intensified among Muslims is, asking help from other than Allah whether permissible or not?, we can't say only help, to ask anything from other than Allah this would be the good/right term. If we try to find the answer to this question we will get different answers from different sects of the Muslim community, the most interesting thing is that all the sects are giving evidence from Quran and 'hadith', these holy books can't be wrong. So there is a genuine and logical question, why is this difference if all the groups/creeds are justifying themselves from Quran and hadith and this is our faith that these books weren't, aren't, and won't be wrong. As far as I think there is the difference of the interpretations or we can say diversity in point of views even though Allah has already mentioned in Quran that "some will get benefit from Quran and some will lose the good/right way" (2:26) because they will misunderstand the Quran, that's why it is necessary for us to follow the interpretations of ancestors as they lived in the islamic golden age.

Now we will discuss the mentioned topic if we see there are two words 'shrik' and 'mushrik' which are being frequently used by the new generation, and are spreading on social media, in colleges and schools, etc, but the most terrifying thing is that they are using it on Muslims. So first I want to clarify that there is the hadith that 'ummah will not commit shrik' mentioned below:

Narrated 'Uqba bin 'Amir:

One day the Prophet went out and offered the funeral prayers of the martyrs of Uhud and then went up the pulpit and said, "I will pave the way for you as your predecessor and will be a witness on you. By Allah! I see my Fount (Kauthar) just now and I have been given the keys of all the treasures of the earth (or the keys of the earth). "By Allah! I am not afraid that you will worship others along with Allah after my death, but I am afraid that you will fight with one another for the worldly things"

Some may ask question here that if a muslim got converted into any other religion then how you will justify this Hadith. The thing we have to remember is that being a muslim ,person can't commit shrik i.e claiming I'm muslim or believing in kalima and doing shrik at the same time. Some will thought when he/she commits shrik then he/ she is excluded from muslim ummah but before committing shrik what was he/she " a muslim". "In simple words who is believing in "kalima"will not commit shrik".

Now you may have realized that really some creeds/Sects have misunderstood things especially the new generation. It is clear now for us that ummah will not commit shirk. Let's come back to our topic permissible or not? A true Muslim should believe that Allah is one and the only helper/provider/giver etc. Just to make you understand I categorized helpers/providers /givers into two groups

1.Primary helper/giver/provider:

2.secondary helpers/givers/providers.

>The primary giver/provider/helper is only Allah, as he has all of his own e.g. Allah has made the whole universe no one can do the same. "the one who has its own" is called primary giver/provider/helper. Except Allah, no one is a primary provider/giver/helper even though if we talk about science there are luminous objects and they are known for emitting their own light but being a Muslim we should believe even luminous objects are controlled by Allah not only the luminous objects all the things which are known or unknown are controlled by Allah.

> The secondary providers/givers/helpers/ are those who don't have their own i.e. whatever they have that is from the primary provider /helper/giver i.e Allah.

All the other givers/providers other than Allah come in the secondary group, they don't have their own, Allah has given them that of much power.

We seek a cure from a doctor, we ask for food from our mother, (children's) ask for money from parents, poor people ask help from rich people, etc...All these come in the secondary group. Your doubts may have cleared now, I believe now that you can differentiate between primary and secondary givers/helper. The same goes with when we seek help from beloved/close ones of Allah as they also come in the secondary group, they don't have their own, and Allah has bestowed them. You may have thought of another important question here that

How the people in graves can listen or do something?

First, we have to see the Islamic differences between life and death. What life is? In general, we say having all that qualities which living thing requires. Now if we try to find the meaning of death? Scientifically we can say "final destination of life" but "Alhamdulillah" as we are Muslims so we have to accept Islamic theory about life and death. So as per the Islamic theory life is divided into three periods:

i)Worldly life: this means life which we live in the world till our death.

ii)Barzakh(obstacle, separation) life: this is the period of our life from the dead to the day of judgment i.e when people will come out of their graves. ( in Quran Allah says '' and confronting them is a barrier until the in which they will be raised " (23:100)

ii)Life of hereafter: is the period of life, starting from the resurrection/ Day of Judgment to forever...

The characteristics of human life are hearing, sight, perception, etc. They are present in all three forms of life, that's why we can observe all the circumstances happening in this world, grave, on the day of judgement, the one who don't have all the senses in this(worldly life) will be given all the senses in the rest two, we don't remember our past i.e. period before birth because we (our souls) were not in the human body .The majority of scholars agree that the torment and reward of the grave are for both the soul and the body. So there is a difference between the death theory of science and the theory of Islam. Even after death, the soul remains attached to the human body, even though the soul has been separated from the body, but the soul will be aware and attached by what happens to the body, just as in the life of this world. Allah returns the souls of his loved/close ones into their bodies, {as our souls ( souls of living) come back to our bodies after sleep. Quran ( 39:42)} , and they(beloved ones) are listening , recognizing the outsiders/visitors.

when we go to the graveyard what we say first, "اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَیْکُمْ یَا اَھْلَ الْقُبُوْر" i.e peace be upon you, o people of graves and it is the sunnah of prophet, we can consider this as proof that people present in graves are listing to the outsiders, that's why the prophet was used to say this while visiting the graveyards:

Below are some hadiths which proves the above mentioned fact(beloved ones of Allah are listening or doing the same what they do in the worldly life" with the the mercy of Allah"):

Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that one of the companions of the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) pitched a tent on a grave. He did not know that there was a grave. It was the grave of human beings, who recited surah al-Mulk (#67) to the end of it. He came to the Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) and said, "O Messenger of Allah (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم), I pitched my tent over a grave without knowing that it was a grave. The man inside recited surah al-Mulk to its end." The Prophet (صلی اللہ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) said, "It is the rescuer. It rescues from the punishment of the grave."

BOOK JAMI AT TIRMIDHI (chapters on the virtues of the Quran): 2890

I came. And in the narration transmitted on the authority of Haddib (the words are): I happened to pass by Moses on the occasion of the Night journey near the red mound (and found him) saying his prayer in his grave.

SAHI MUSLIM

BOOK 30 (book of virtues) Hadith no 5858

Above mentioned two hadiths

supports the mentioned topic ( how can dead listen, do something, etc)

Now there is an important point if someone Raises question on the power of Allah's beloved ones, he/she is indirectly questioning the power of Allah because he/she (we seek refuge in God) is not believing that Allah can bestow someone with that as Allah can do anything, but we should not forget this fact that if we ask other than Allah we believe they are secondary givers/providers as Allah has bestowed them and there is nothing wrong in this.

indeed there are verses in Quran that tells us don't invoke anyone along with Allah, but these verses are for those who think there are other primary givers/providers than Allah i.e. "kafir" otherwise if we apply them on secondary providers/helpers/givers then how can we ask food from mother, cure of a doctor, money from father/ guardian, help from each other

(We seek refuge in god)

There is another question you may have thought that is where Allah tells about secondary givers/ providers/helpers for this I'm mentioning some verses from Holy Quran where Allah tells to believers that seek help from others as I (Allah) has bestowed/provided them, these are:

اَنْ اَغْنٰىهُمُ اللّٰهُ وَ رَسُوْلُهٗ مِنْ فَضْلِهٖۚ (1

Allah, and His Noble Messenger, made them prosperous with His grace?

and give us a protector from Yourself, and give us a supporter from Yourself.' (Allah has created many supporters for the believers.)

It is they whom Allah has cursed; and for those whom Allah has cursed, you (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) will never find any supporter

# above mentioned Verse telling us, whom Allah has cursed, will not find any supporter/friend. It means supporters/helpers are for those whom Allah has blessed.

(18:19)

◆ He said, 'I am indeed one sent by your Lord; so that I may give you a chaste son.'

#in the above-mentioned verse Gabriel is telling to Maryam (a.s) that I will give you the child. So think if Allah's angle can give child by the mercy of Allah, why can't. Allah's beloved one's give with the mercy of Allah (secondary providers)

(5

O People who Believe! Seek help from patience and prayer; indeed Allah is with those who patiently endure.

# in this verse Allah guides us, you can ask help from Allah's beloved things/persons.

So when Eisa sensed their disbelief he said, 'Who will be my aides towards (in the cause of) Allah?'

# in the above-mentioned verse Eisa(a.s) Is seeking aid/help from people, why he didn't ask for help from Allah only? Because he knows Allah has sent secondary helpers for me. Why can't consider Allah's beloved ones the helpers sent by Allah.

and help one another in righteousness and piety – and do not help one another in sin and injustice – and keep fearing Allah; indeed Allah's punishment is severe.

#in the above verse Allah clearly orders us to help each other but not a sinner, this is an example of a secondary helper described by Allah.

O People who Believe! If you help the religion of Allah, He will help you and will stabilize you.

#how can we help the religion, does Allah need someone to promote/save his religion? No, but Allah loves means/intercession and Allah knows I am the primary source and I have blessed my creation so that they can promote/save my religion as Allah doesn't have the physical appearance ( we seek refuge in God) that's why he sent approx. 124000 prophets to convey the real and right religion to the people. It is like going to a doctor, or ask food from one another because Allah can't give us the medicine/food physically, but those who are giving us they don't have their own it is Allah who has given them that power/access, this one is the best example of the secondary helper/provider/saver.

then indeed Allah is his Supporter, and Jibreel and the virtuous believers are also his aides, and in addition, the angels are also his aides. (Allah has created several supporters for the believers.)

#in the above-mentioned verse Allah clearly says the Gabriel, virtuous believers are also aides. But remember secondary supporters I.e. power given by Allah.

People who Believe! Fear Allah, and seek the means towards Him, and strive in His cause, in the hope of attaining success.

In the above-mentioned verse there comes a term i.e. 'waseela' or 'means'. Waseela also justifies the secondary provider/giver/helper as the secondary provider is dependent on primary i.e. Allah. whether we ask directly to righteous people (secondary) or asking Allah by their means is the same thing because in both situations we believe righteous /beloved ones ( secondary) can't give of their own, without the willingness of Allah they can't help or be our mediators, as they righteous ( secondary ) are also controlled by Allah. There is also a hadith that Allah doesn't deny his beloved ones desire, mentioned below:

Allah's Apostle said, "Allah said, 'I will declare war against him who shows hostility to a pious worshipper of Mine.

Volume 8, Book 76, Number 509: Narrated Abu Huraira:

#in the above-mentioned hadith Allah is showing the grade/rank/value of his beloved ones/pious worshippers. In the first phase of the mentioned hadith Allah says I will declare war against the opposer/enemies of his beloved ones/close ones, this is the big thing, war isn't an ordinary word and Allah is using this word, we can't even imagine the intensity of Allah's war. So it means we can't say a word against Allah's beloved/close ones, . Allah also explains how a worshipper can be a pious worshiper. in the third section of the hadith Allah's further describes the value/rank of his beloved/close ones, Allah says I become the sense of hearing, sense of sight, and his hands, and his legs with which he walks, Allah doesn't have the physical appearance but here Allah is showing us how close he is to his beloved/pious ones. We can get one more thing from this which is when Allah becomes hands of his close ones then if we seek something from his beloved ones/close ones indirectly we are asking to Allah as Allah says I'm becoming their senses. "here becoming means Allah is controlling them i.e. physically hands are of his beloved/close ones but are controlled by Allah, and we are asking as a physical appearance, so we can ask to the physical hands i.e. hands of Allah's beloved ones, as we know these hands are controlled by Allah". Further Allah says" I won't disappoint my pious worshipper". This means whatever he/she asks him he (Allah) will fulfil their wishes, that's why it has been the method of our ancestors to ask Allah by the means of his beloved /close ones as Allah cant reject their mediation/ intercession, we should also follow the same.

There are a lot of evidence's from the Quran and hadith which proves we can easily ask from the beloved ones/ close ones of Allah but considering them as secondary providers/helpers (i.e. power given by Allah)

I hope you have understood the difference between primary and secondary helpers/givers. I hope you will leave ignorance aside and think on the mentioned topic, I tried to convey the knowledge may Allah make you understand, and accept this and forgive us and our ancestors.

Note: hadith numbers may vary, as there are various publishers but you can recheck by using the chapter name. ( I've used the hadiths numbers according to google play e-books)

Thank you so much 🙂❤️
